Beijing Ranks First in China's Green Development Index
Beijing ranked first among all provinces and cities in China in the green development index, and the other nine areas in the top 10 are Qinghai, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Hainan, Tianjin, Fujian, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Shandong, according to the "China Green Development Index Annual Report 2010: An Inter-provincial Comparison" released on Nov. 4.
The report was jointly compiled by Beijing Normal University, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and the National Bureau of Statistics. According to information from an authoritative source, this is China's first index system used for monitoring and measuring green development.
The green development index system consists of three primary indices, namely the greenness of economic growth, the potential of natural resources and environment and support from government policies.
The three primary indices are subdivided into nine secondary indices and more than 50 tertiary indices that measure production and resource utilization efficiency in the process of economic growth, protection of resources and ecosystems, disposal of pollutants, governmental investments and management of green development as well as other aspects.
