A Teacher's Role

With the development of teaching, there are now many new trends in learn Chinese. All of the changes have resulted from the changes in educational theory, changes in the new teaching conditions, and changes in the way we think about language teaching and learning, changes in the development of technology, changes in English learners’ needs.

The role of the teacher should be like the following:
1. The Teacher as an Organizer
The most important and difficult role that a Chinese teacher plays is that of an organizer. In the most cases, the success of many teaching activities depends on good organization and clear instruction of the teacher.

2. The Teacher as Assessor
Then, the teacher as assessor is also critical for the English teacher. Because it is clear that a major part of a teacher’s job is to assess the students’ work, to gauge how well they are performing or how well they performed in Chinese classes.

3. The Teacher as Prompter
The students often need to be encouraged to participate or to be given suggestions about how they may perform in an activity, where silence occurs or when they are in confusion of what to do next in Chinese classes.

4.The Teacher as Resource Person

The resource role implies that the students take the initiative to come to the teacher and the teacher is ready to offer advice and counsel whenever the students seek it.

5. The Teacher as controller
As sometimes expected in traditional education institutions, the teacher plays the role of master controller when he is always in charge of every moment in the classroom.

6. The Teacher as Psychologist
In fact, when teaching, the Chinese teacher often plays a role of a psychologist. He should treat each student equally so that the students receive s sense of security and produce cooperation.

A student ought to play a key part in the classroom, as a student who wants to learn more things from the teacher, he should behave himself; listen to the teacher carefully, not to be absent- minded. On the other hand, he should learn Chinese to be a volunteer, answer the teacher’s questions actively, point out the mistakes of the teachers in time, and so on. Only in this way can the students be successful.
