Bachelor’s program in English starts at Shenzhen University

SHENZHEN University’s College of International Exchange is offering a new program to overseas students who want to gain a bachelor’s degree while improving their Chinese language abilities.

The four-year program began in September and is taught in English with international professors and lecturers from the United States and around the world, said Tim Tu, director of the college’s bachelor’s programs.

The first major offered is international trade and economics. The main subjects include management, mathematics and marketing.

Overseas students with valid high school graduation certificates can apply for the program at the university.

The program is expected to help international students, who will take Chinese language classes as extracurriculars, be well-rounded and qualified to work in China after gaining a degree. Tuition for the program is about 10,000 yuan (US$1,629) per semester.

The college also has opened a new Chinese language learning program in Luohu District. Located north of Diwang Mansion, the program includes courses focusing on Chinese listening, speaking and comprehension.

“We want to serve international students who struggle to attend the university’s campus in Nanshan District,” said Wang Qingguo, dean of the college.

At present, the college has about 800 long-term international students learning Chinese on the campus. About 1,800 students from more than 80 countries and regions take Chinese language learning courses a year.
