On December 6th, foundation meeting of SMU Alumni Association was held, and SMU Alumni Association was officially founded. Mr. Zhou Wei, Division Chief of Administrative Division for Social Organizations under Shanghai Administration Bureau of NGOs, Wang Entian and Yu Shicheng, former Chairmen of SMU University Council, Yuan Jinhong, former Vice President of SMU attended the foundation meeting. Participants also include representatives from 13 brother universities’ Alumni Associations and predecessors who graduated from SMU from home and abroad. The foundation meeting was presided over by Mr. Yang Wanfeng, Vice President of SMU. 

During the foundation meeting, the alumni looked back on the wonderful learning time in SMU, narrated the profound friendships with faculty and students, introduced their working and living conditions after graduation, and expressed their yearning for SMU and gratitude for the holding of the activity. They said that they had a sense of belonging after finding the organization. The experiences and feelings were shared in a warm and lively atmosphere when it stroke a chord with each other.

Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council, delivered his welcoming speech. And on behalf of SMU, he extended sincere thanks to SMU alumni and brother universities. Prof. Jin expressed that SMU’s development got full support from SMU alumni and he hoped that SMU alumni could contribute ideas and exert efforts for the association and build a better one with everyone’s joint effort. As the first Chairman of SMU Alumni Association and President of SMU, Prof. Huang Youfang delivered a speech. According to Prof. Huang, alumni is the direct embodiment of a university’s educational achievement and the important carrier of the inheritance of campus context. He hoped that SMU alumni could share information, integrate resources and achieve joint development through SMU Alumni Association. At the meeting, the Alumni Association Charter had been passed and Council Members of the First Session had been approved.

After the foundation meeting, alumni walked around SMU campus, visited Gallery of SMU History and SMU parterre----a landmark of the old Minsheng Campus. And each college and school of SMU also prepared various activities to show warm welcome and hospitality to alumni, which won alumni’s love and praises.
